本册教材可供九年级第二学期使用，共分五章，每章由五个部分组成，即Reading（阅读）、Listening（听力）、Language（语言）、Speaking（会话）和Writing（写作）。此外，一个名为“Using English（实用英语）”的部分交替地出现在各章中。每一章的最后还附有一个名为“More Practice（更多练习）”的部分。具体内容如下： Reading（阅读）--文章的风格和形式多种多样，有书信、采访、叙述文等。分别针对读前、读中和读后三个过程提供相应的练习，训练学生略读（Skimming）、细读（Scanning）等重要的阅读技能。 Listening（听力）--练习形式多种多样，内容与各章的主题有关，主要使学生通过这些练习提高相应的听力技能。 Language（语言）--所列的语言点是目前语言水平的学生必需掌握的，且以主阅读文章中自然呈现的语言为选取目标。语法练习以“任务”为基础，强调语法的语用功能，目的是为了激励学生学习语言的兴趣，同时培养他们的语言交际能力。 Speaking（会话）--由两部分组成。一部分教授学生有关英语语调、重音、音节、节奏和发音体系以及基本的语言功能。另一部分以非常简单的会话活动开始，旨在通过教授学生如何参加与角色演练和讨论，向他人发表观点一直到最后能自己组织并发表短篇讲话来提高他们的语言流利程度和自信心。 Writing（写作）--旨在培养学生书写不同体裁文章的能力。内容一般与本章的阅读部分有关，但有时与“语言”或者“实用英语”部分有关。由两部分组成：第一部分要求学生思考并解决与第二部分的任务有关的一个写作问题，然后再完成第二部分的写作任务。 Using English（实用英语）--提供给学生一系列的任务和问题，使他们通过完成这些任务来提高自己的语言实用技能。 More Practice（更多语言输入）--提供给学生更多的与本章主题有关的阅读和听力素材从而增加英语语言输入量，并加强学生的学习能力。
